A new generation looks forward as Mao's image fades in the background.

family gathering

Sometimes I post pictures I did not take but wish I had. Here is one of them – this is my extended family who gathered for Chinese New Year. Wishing I was there! Happy New Year and may the Year of the dragon be a good one.

It has been so long since I posted - I was away growing my hair! Happy New Year (2012) everyone! And a special happy Chinese New Year this weekend too!

danger (british museum)

As I was taking this photo a person giving a guest an individual tour of the British Museum was explaining to his guest that Tara (this gold plated figure of a goddess) was locked away in a dark closet in Victorian times because in those days her curves were so sensual that she was considered dangerous. I interrupted and said, “what do you mean ‘was’ dangerous she still is!” The guide turned to me and enthusiastically said, “Yes and in the most delightful way.” He and I immediately struck up a conversation about Tara while his guest rolled her eyes at these two guys so easily distracted. Perhaps the Victorians understood a thing or two.
