I met this chap 18 months ago in a market in China and took his photo (here). As usual, when I take someone’s photo I print the shot in Canada, and then when I go back I give them a copy. But when I returned he was not there, and the next time I returned he was not there either. I searched the market and asked around—people said maybe he had died. Just before my last trip I heard from Daniel that the man was back in the market and Daniel had given him the copy of his photo. Shortly after when I arrived in China I went to the market and saw him. Without saying a word we exchanged smiles. I gestured to my camera looking for permission to take another photo, he nodded and I took this shot, and left until the next time. I don’t think people have to speak the same language to be friends.

Sorry I have not posted for a few days. A friend e-mailed me to say that the monkey in the last post reminded her of me and it took me several days for me to get over it. I don’t think that monkey looked like me at all – I think this one does!
